Labor Day Feed!

Labor Day is almost here and to honor those members who are sacrificing their holiday time at home with their families, your Local voted (at the last meeting), to feed those men and women who will be working Monday September 4th.  The E-Board will be handling the feed and e-board president Mike McCoig (Koko) has sent out some details about it. There will be a parade, festivities and speeches at Spring Park in Tuscumbia, AL. It is the oldest Labor Day celebration in the state.  Here is a Link to a map if you are interested in attending. No matter if you are working or just celebrating please keep in mind the people who sacrificed so much to get us where we are today and above all else have a safe holiday weekend! Oh and I almost forgot to mention that over ONE HUNDRED members have signed up for the message board already!  We would love to have 100% participation so if you have not done so contact one of the officers or our webmaster Art via the links on the left to get details on how to register.

IBEW Utility Code of Excellence

Mr. Blakely asked if I would post this. The Code of Excellence idea has been around for several years. Granted, our Union/company relationship is a bit different from most of those described in the video, but there are parallels.
For example, one of our Union missions is the health and safety of our members. The Code of Excellence idea is meant to foster a good relationship between all parties toward the end of having the safest possible environment in which to work. That benefits all of us.

1 month in – update courtesy of Brother Blakely

A month is in the books now and I just wanted to give a little update as to the state of our Local. Currently we have a lot of good things happening. We are working hard to improve communications and on that subject I would like to thank Art for working diligently to get this website updated and also making a forum for us to use. “Shop Talk” message board is active now with updates on what is going on, an off topic section, and even a poll section for us to use to get the pulse of the membership on various ideas we have. If you would like access to it you can simply email Art (by clicking on the “webmaster link to the left) and he will give you instructions or if you have Facebook join our IBEW 765 group and the instructions are there as well.

The Union meeting on Monday night will have a whole host of issues and information being talked about and as a primer I put a post in the “Shop Talk” message board with a rough outline of the agenda for that meeting. I ran my campaign on improving communications and trying to get more participation and towards that one of the first polls we are conducting on the message board is about possibly having a Union picnic. Please vote in that poll so that we can get an idea of how many people might attend if we go forward with that. Art also has fixed the emails on the left and they should all be working as well so if you need to get in touch with an officer privately just click on the link to the left or make a post on the “Shop Talk” board asking for someone to contact you.

Lastly Labor day is fast approaching and if you didn’t know there will be a parade and activities in the Shoals area. A lot of people that came before us put a whole lot on the line so that we can have the benefits we have today so please keep them in your thoughts & prayers along with our Brothers & Sisters that may not be in great health. I hope you all have a great month of August and look forward to seeing you at the Union meeting.

Michael A. Blakely 2nd

President/Business Manager
IBEW Local 765

A little later than it should have been, but hey, here’s updates…

In the event that you haven’t heard, the elections for IBEW Local 765 were completed in July. Here are your Local 765 officials:

Michael A. Blakely 2nd – President IBEW Local 765
David Kimbrough (AUO) – Vice President
Kenny Porter (IM) – Financial Secretary
Mitch Holden (AUO) – Recording Secretary
Michael Dickey (AUO) – Treasurer

The e-mails in the left hand sidebar have been updated.

In addition to our Facebook group (e-mail me at if you want access and you’re on FB), we intend to have a password protected on-line forum where we can discuss things.

Reminder – The next meeting is 8/7/17. If you can, come on out!!!

Lastly, Mike wanted me to put out the word that Local 765 is looking for volunteers aged 18-35 for the RENEW committee. For more info on the IBEW’s renew initiative, see here. Essentially, IBEW is looking to foster union membership and future leadership among our younger brethren.
